  • Joanne Chong embarked on her Pilates journey in 2012, driven by the debilitating pain of plantar fasciitis. Seeking relief, she found herself at a Pilates studio, and within six months of bi-weekly sessions, she not only alleviated her foot condition but also discovered a profound mental clarity and a renewed perspective on life.

    After years of teaching, Joanne co-founded Altum Pilates, with the goal of deepening the engagement with Classical Pilates in the community while adhering closely to the foundational teachings and intents of Joseph Pilates himself. As a life-long learner with a particular interest in mentoring the next generation of Pilates teachers, Joanne has studied and trained extensively around the world, from Zurich, Manila, Singapore, to hone and expand her Pilates education and practice.

    In Joanne’s classes, she aims to bring her clients through every movement and apparatus being tied back to its original purpose, ensuring that the practice remains true to its roots and accessible to all.

  • Jane's introduction to Pilates was born from personal necessity when she sought relief from persistent knee and hip pain. Her remarkable recovery not only eliminated the pain but also sparked a profound love for the discipline, leading her to become a certified Pilates instructor in 2014.

    Before her Pilates career, Jane was a dedicated secondary school teacher, a role that honed her skills in nurturing and inspiring young minds. Merging her love for teaching with her new-found passion for Pilates, Jane embarked on a mission to enrich her students' lives through enhanced body awareness, alignment, and confidence. Her group classes focus on making fun and challenging movements accessible to all, helping students gain mobility and strength through regular practice. In her private sessions, Jane employs a patient and personalized approach, adapting exercises to individual needs, allowing each student to flourish and meet their personal fitness goals year after year.

    Jane's commitment to education extends beyond her classes; She was a member of the BodyTree Academy and taught the Pilates MatWork Teacher Training Course (Jakarta) in 2018 and 2019; Pilates Spine Corrector Course (Singapore and Jakarta) in 2018 and 2019; Pilates MatWork Teacher Training Course (Singapore) in 2021. An avid learner herself, Jane recently completed the Awakening Yoga 200 hours in 2022, further broadening her expertise. She integrates this knowledge into her teaching, adhering to her belief in tailoring exercises to fit the body, ensuring a holistic approach to health and wellness that respects the unique needs of each student.

After years of enduring a sedentary lifestyle, she faced significant shoulder and lower back tightness. Pilates first entered her life as a form of rehabilitation for a knee injury, and the profound benefits she experienced inspired her to make a dramatic career shift. Recognizing health as a deliberate lifestyle choice essential for longevity, she decided to leave the corporate world behind to pursue a path where she could share the transformative power of Pilates with others.

    Today, Margaret is a passionate advocate for the wellbeing of her students, dedicated to guiding them toward improved health and vitality through Pilates. In her classes, she focuses on helping others achieve a balance of strength and flexibility, while also nurturing their overall wellness. Outside of the studio, Margaret enjoys exploring the world, always on the lookout for great food and new experiences.   • Zhiling initially underestimated Pilates, favouring high-impact activities like running, spinning, and weight training. However, the physical toll of these demanding exercises began to manifest in lower back pains, exacerbated by an injury at the gym. On a doctor’s recommendation, she embarked on her Pilates journey in 2017, with Joanne Chong as her first instructor. Initially a rehabilitation measure for spinal health, Pilates soon transformed into a deeply engaging practice for Zhiling. The progressive relief of her back pain and the strengthening and stretching of her body with each session ignited a new passion, revealing the therapeutic power of controlled, mindful movement.

    As her practice deepened, so did her fascination with the Pilates system. Zhiling immersed herself in the nuanced sensations each apparatus offered. Her commitment led her to pursue further education, culminating in her certification after completing the SMART Movement Teachers' Training course with Master Trainer Ole Eugenio. Today, Zhiling advocates for Pilates not just as exercise but as a holistic engagement of mind, body, and soul.   • Sarah’s initial brush with Pilates began by chance in her 30s, when she discovered a studio next to her office. Initially not very athletic, she found Pilates to be a delightful supplement to her routine runs, adding an engaging element to her fitness regime. She developed a deeper affinity for the practice, although the full depth of Pilates remained unexplored until she returned to it years later, when she delved deeper into the principles and history of Pilates, including the pioneering work of Joseph Pilates.

    This renewed journey led her to a studio where she encountered Joanne, whose clear and engaging instruction style inspired Sarah to pursue instructor training under the guidance of master trainers Ole Eugenio and Fhe Samia. The profound realisation of how intricately our bodies are designed, and how Pilates harnesses this design to enhance movement and functionality, reshaped her understanding of wellness. This awareness brought her to a deeper mission: to teach Pilates not merely as exercise but as a holistic practice that fosters a vital connection with one’s body. Sarah’s commitment extends beyond personal practice; she is driven by a vision to empower others, particularly the aging population, to embrace their bodily health and enjoy a life of mobility and dignity.
